Strolling, Straining, or Stretching? Which are you?
When you think about your current activities, where do you see yourself at the moment?
Strolling: Everything comes easy to you. The tasks at hand are generally comfortable, safe, without too many surprises. You may feel satisfied and confident in what you’re doing. You may also feel uninspired and bored at times, because you are not challenged. Think of a muscle. If you don’t use it to its potential, it will ultimately become weaker.
Straining: You’ve taken on activities that are currently beyond your abilities, but you dig in and make the best of it. You find that you come up short most of the times and it ends up giving you stress and less confidence in your abilities. You may feel overwhelmed, like you’re always a step behind. Think of straining a muscle. Going too far beyond your reach leads to injury or decline, instead of growth.
Stretching: You’re doing something that’s a little out of your current reach and you dig in to make the best of it. The longer you try, the more you find that it becomes easier and your reach is expanding. You feel challenged, but not overwhelmed. When you’ve reached the comfortable level, you look for new challenges. That’s how you grow. A final look at the muscle. If you go a little beyond your reach each time, it will become stronger and more flexible over time.
Where are you, when you think about your job, hobbies, relationship or other part of your life? And where do you want to be?
