Practise Confidence with simple things

One of the most common problems that people bring to a coaching session is lack of confidence. They might lable it fear or insecurity, but what they want is to be confident in what they need to do.

What is confidence? It’s a mental and physical state, that happens when you think and feel that you can absolutely handle the task at hand. It’s not only in your mind. You walk, breathe, talk and look in a certain way when you’re confident. As you may know, body and mind influence each other in both directions. So if you’re confident in your mind, your physique will change. And if you change your physique to a confident state, you will start to feel confident mentally.

Another thing about confidence is that you can be confident without being aware of it. When you brush your teeth in the morning, do you feel confident that you will accomplish that task? I bet your mind is elsewhere at that moment. There are dozens of opportunities each day to really feel confident, but we let them slip by because they are simple or just part of a daily routine.

You can practise confidence by being mindful about the moments during the day that you are confident. I think people are confident 80% of the time, but they choose to focus on the 20% insecurity. Focus on all the things that you can do with confidence and then do them With Confidence. Get into a confident physical state, whatever that looks like for you. Say to yourself: I can do this with confidence, because I have mastered this skill. Remember, nothing starts out simple, so for everything that’s now simple you have already taken the path from insecurity to confidence. There’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t take that path again and again in the future.

So be mindful of all that you could be confident about right now. Let your body get used to your confident state and put it into that state for your new challenges. And remind yourself that what’s a challenge now, may be simple in the future.
