Know your expectations (and those of others)

In any relationship (or contact between people), whether intimate or work related, expectations govern our feelings of satisfaction or disappointment. Each and every person has expectations. Some of these expectations are conscious, others are subconscious.

If you’re dealing with people, in any situation, it is important to know your own expectations and the expectations of the other persons.Write them down. Once you know your own expectations, you can express them and act upon them. This will bring clarity, and allow the other person or persons to act upon it as well. Getting others to express their expectations will improve your chances to reach satisfaction.

Don’t confuse expectations with goals, by the way. A goal is what you want to happen. An expectation is what you think will happen. So get the expectations out in the open and go for satisfaction every time.
